The Two Stories We Get to Tell

We all have a story to tell.

The first is our own success story—the story of our achievements, the goals we have reached, the obstacles we have overcome, and the dreams we have turned into reality. It is a story worth celebrating. Our growth matters. Our victories matter. The journey we have taken matters.

But there is another story—one that may be even more important.

It is the story of the difference we make in the lives of others.

This is the story of the people we encouraged when they were ready to give up. The dreams we helped someone believe were possible. The opportunities we created. The person who found hope because we chose to show up. The life that became a little better because we were part of the journey.

That is a different kind of success.

And perhaps it is the kind of success that lasts the longest.

Every day, we have an opportunity to become a catalyst for positive change. We don’t always need extraordinary resources or grand gestures. Sometimes, impact begins with something as simple as a kind word, a listening ear, a piece of guidance, an introduction, an opportunity, or simply being present when someone needs encouragement.

We may never fully know how far that small act will travel.

A kind word can become confidence.
Confidence can become courage.
Courage can become action.
And action can change a life.

Our actions are like pebbles thrown into a pond. We may see only the first ripple, but the impact can continue moving outward long after we have walked away.

So, while we pursue our own dreams, perhaps we should also pause and ask ourselves:

“What am I doing today to make someone else’s life better?”

That question can change the way we define success.

Because life isn’t only about what we accomplish for ourselves. It is also about what becomes possible because of us.

Imagine if our greatest stories were not simply about the positions we held, the awards we received, the money we made, or the goals we achieved—but about the people who became stronger, more confident, more hopeful, and more successful because we chose to invest in them.

That would be a powerful legacy.

Let us build stories of significance, not just stories of success.

Let us celebrate our own progress while creating pathways for others to progress.

Let us pursue our dreams while helping others discover theirs.

Let us rise—but never forget to reach back and lift someone else.

Because when we elevate others, we don’t diminish our own light. We make the light brighter for everyone.

And perhaps, when our own chapter eventually comes to an end, the most meaningful question won’t be “What did I achieve?”

It will be:

“Whose life became better because I was here?”

That is a story worth telling.
That is a legacy worth building.
That is significance.

Your Action for Today

Don’t just read this—put it into action.

Before today ends, think of one person whose life you can make a little better. Send the message. Make the introduction. Offer the encouragement. Share the opportunity. Listen. Show up.

It doesn’t have to be something big. Small acts can create ripples far beyond what we can see.

Ask yourself:

“What can I do today that makes someone else believe a better tomorrow is possible?”

Then do it today.

Because your greatest impact may not be found in what you accomplish, but in what becomes possible because you chose to lift someone else.
